Polyurethane liquid Waterproofing Membrane – SOLVENT BASED
Description:
Solvent-based polyurethane liquid waterproofing membrane is a type of liquid applied coating that forms a seamless, flexible, and durable membrane on a variety of substrates. It is used to waterproof different types of surfaces like concrete, metal, wood, and other materials that are exposed to water and moisture.
Solvent-based polyurethane liquid waterproofing membrane is available in both single and two-component formulations. The two-component system consists of a base component and a curing agent, while the single-component system is pre-catalyzed and ready to use without the need for a separate curing agent.

Both single and two-component solvent-based Polyurethane liquid waterproofing membranes create a seamless and flexible waterproof barrier on various surfaces such as concrete, metal, wood, and other materials exposed to water and moisture. The base component of the two-component system contains polyurethane resins, solvents, pigments, and additives, while the curing agent or hardener is typically an isocyanate-based compound that reacts with the base to form a strong, durable, and elastomeric membrane.
The application of solvent-based PU liquid waterproofing membrane is relatively simple and can be done by brush, roller, or spray. Before applying the membrane, it is essential to ensure that the surface is clean, dry, and free of any loose material. The thickness of the membrane typically ranges from 0.5mm to 2mm, depending on the specific requirements of the project.
While solvent-based PU liquid waterproofing membranes offer excellent resistance to water and moisture, they can be sensitive to temperature and humidity during application.

They can provide a long-lasting and reliable liquid waterproofing solution for different types of structures, including roofs, basements, decks, and foundations. Aliphatic rages of Polyurethanes (PU) liquid Waterproofing membranes also have good UV resistance, which means they can withstand exposure to sunlight without degrading over time. However Aromatic ranges of Polyurthanes (PU) liquid waterproofing membranes need a Aliphatic Polyurthane (PU) top coat to protect it from UV lights when are left exposed.
However, solvent-based PU liquid waterproofing membranes are not without their limitations. They can be sensitive to temperature and humidity during application, and they may emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be harmful to human health and the environment. Therefore, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and safety precautions when handling and applying the product.
Polyurethane liquid Waterproofing membrane – Uses:
PU liquid Waterproofing membranes can be used in a wide range of applications where protection against water and moisture is required. Here are some of the common locations where PU is used:

- Roofs: PU liquid waterproofing membranes are frequently used to waterproof flat or low-slope roofs made of concrete, metal, or asphalt.
- Roof gardens.
- Metal and asbestos roofs.
- Basements: PU coatings are commonly used to waterproof below-grade structures like basements, retaining walls, and foundations.
- Retaining wall and foundations.
- Decks and balconies: PU coatings are also suitable for liquid waterproofing elevated decks and balconies made of concrete, wood, or other materials.
- Tunnels and bridges: PU coatings are often used to waterproof tunnels, bridges, and other infrastructure projects that are exposed to harsh environmental conditions. Cut and cover tunnels, UG metro station roofs.
- Parking structures: PU coatings can be used to waterproof parking structures and garages, protecting the concrete from water, oil, and other chemicals.
- Industrial facilities: PU coatings can also be used in industrial settings to protect floors, walls, and other surfaces from chemicals, abrasion, and moisture.
- Waterproofing of Wet Areas in Bathrooms, Kitchens, Balconies
- Swimming Pool, artificial lakes and ponds.
- Auxiliary Rooms.
- Can be coated only from positive side on substructure.
Application procedure
Careful surface preparation is essential for optimum finish and durability. The surface needs to be clean, dry and sound, free of any contamination, which may harmfully affect the adhesion of the membrane.
Maximum moisture content should not exceed 5%. Substrate compressive strength should be at least 25 MPa, cohesive bond strength at least 1.5 MPa. New concrete structures need to dry for at least 28 days. Old, loose coatings, dirt, fats, oils, organic substances and dust need to be removed by a grinding machine. Possible surface irregularities need to be smoothened. Any loose surface pieces and grinding dust need to be thoroughly removed.
Polyurethane (PU) liquid waterproofing membranes can be used in a wide range of applications where protection against water and moisture is required. Here are some of the common locations where PU is used:
- Roofs: PU liquid waterproofing membranes are frequently used to waterproof flat or low-slope roofs made of concrete, metal, or asphalt.
- Basements: liquid PU coatings are commonly used to waterproof below-grade structures like basements, retaining walls, and foundations.
- Tunnels and bridges: liquid PU coatings are often used to waterproof tunnels, bridges, and other infrastructure projects that are exposed to harsh environmental conditions.
- Decks and balconies: liquid PU coatings are also suitable for waterproofing elevated decks and balconies made of concrete, wood, or other materials.
- Parking structures: liquid PU coatings can be used to waterproof parking structures and garages, protecting the concrete from water, oil, and other chemicals.
- Industrial facilities: liquid PU coatings can also be used in industrial settings to protect floors, walls, and other surfaces from chemicals, abrasion, and moisture.
Overall, polyurethane liquid waterproofing membranes are a versatile solution for protecting different types of structures from water damage and can be used in a variety of locations where water and moisture are a concern.
